It was a sunny winter’s day, perfect conditions for highly tuned engines. I was so excited as I was booked in to be thrown around in a drift car. It was a great start to the day but it was nothing compared to what was I was about to find over the road.
As I walked to my car I heard a symphony of classic racers tearing up Eastern Creek Raceway. I looked over and saw the goodness of 911s, GT Falcons, Toranas, Mustangs & Alfas. Retro Speedfest is the event. My day went from awesome to a-friggen-mazing!
When I got to the track I was greeted with some extremely rare race cars.
It was incredible hearing and seeing them used as they should be.
With over 200 cars in 8 historic racing categories there’s always something grabbing your attention.
There was a whole class for Jack Brabham racers.
It was on for young and old
Noel and his 63 Rennmax.
The standout for me was The McLaren M8E, a gorgeous piece of machinery powered by a big block chevy. Look at the trumpets!
They even had Australian race engineer, Barry Lock on board who worked for McLaren in the era the M8E was built.
How about class just for GT 350s?
Niki Lauda F1 cars? Yep got it covered.
I think I just discovered my favourite event.
